Darren’s Story

Here at ND Care & Support, we understand that there are a variety of reasons why an individual may require support.

Whether your needs are long-term, short-term, convalescent, for respite or of a holiday-care nature, we’ll design your care plan and continuously review it to meet and respond to your unique needs and requirements.

Darren Woods, an ND Care and Support user, shares his experience below.

Darren’s Story

“In December of 2022, I became unwell with a rare skin condition and an eye infection, this resulted in me needing support with my two boys, of whom I am the sole carer. My twin boys suffer from multiple health conditions as well as Global Development Delay.

“I was put in touch with ND Care and Support and they started visiting us just after Christmas, six days a week, multiple times a day, to allow me some respite. The support both myself and the boys get is second to none, I would not have gotten through the last six months if it wasn’t for their help. I’m safe in the knowledge that my boys are being looked after by a team of trained professionals who cannot do enough to make my family’s lives easier and happier from day to day. I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

My children and I would like to thank each one of the lovely staff members for their continued support. They are all a breath of fresh air and the boys love seeing them every day, as do I.”

Our team visit Darren’s home six days a week, twice a day. They visit once in the morning to assist with readying his children, and once in the evening to allow Darren to relax and unwind while they provide assistance to the children. That assistance is sometimes in the form of physical care but more often than not, it’s socialising with the boys, getting creative, reading, and playing games and so on.

Here at ND Care and Support we cannot stress the importance of respite for carers, having a break is important when you care for someone. Looking after your wellbeing allows you some independence and results in your individual needs being met. This ultimately reduces some of the pressure that comes with caring for someone.
