Recruiting carers for our community

Sarah Watkins is one of the first people you speak to if you apply for a role with ND Care & Support’s Abertillery branch.

Now employed as a Recruitment Resourcer, Sarah has worked in the care sector since the age of 18.

“I started off working in a residential home, before going on to working in the community and also working in the hospital as a healthcare support worker. It wasn’t until 2019 that I joined the company as a care co-ordinator,” reflected Sarah.

Having progressed to administrator for the branch in 2021, Sarah moved to her new role in spring 2022, a job she thoroughly enjoys.

“I find it very rewarding and knowing I’m helping people into employment makes me feel happy. Care is always needed in the community and knowing we have the best carers out there providing care and support to our service users makes me feel proud”, added Sarah.

A typical day for Sarah includes contacting new applicants, conducting interviews, and overseeing the paperwork for new applicants, working with our compliance team. Sarah is responsible for posting the jobs on our website and Indeed, ensuring successful applicants are booked onto their training before starting with us.

However, the best part of her role according to Sarah is “seeing new carers progress into their career in the care sector”.

Looking to start a fulfilling career in care? Sarah has some advice: “Stick at it, it’s a rewarding job and you will enjoy it. Everything may seem daunting at first but with your training and support given you will be amazing!”
