Keeping care in the family

Posted on

“I’ve grown up watching my family work in the care sector and it was something I always wanted to do”, reflected Abigail when she thinks of her decision to work in the care sector.

Abigail John is one of our care co-ordinators and helps support vulnerable adults and children in the Bridgend area.  The job of a Care Co-ordinator is a varied one; from overseeing care packages with appropriate cover to liaising with service users’ family, social workers and doctors. The role is office-based and also provides business support with tasks such as cost and rota management. Ultimately, a Care Co-ordinator helps with the smooth running of the care service.

However, the best part of the job is, “Being able to cover calls and helping our service users to live their life as independently as possible”, according to Abi.

Abi decided to go into care after being inspired by her family, particularly her nan.

She had her first taste of a career in care when working in a care home during the school summer holidays, the same care home that her nan worked at.

“At the care home I enjoyed being able to help people in their day-to-day life. My nan was my inspiration and I hope to get to the stage my nan was at, which was a manager; I know she would be so proud of me”, added Abi.
